Meet Rachel Gemanio, Dr. Golpa's treatment director - and as patients will tell you, so much more. As counselor, dental procedure expert and patient advocate, Rachel strives to make sure every patient understands and is understood. It's something she does so well that most patients simply think of her as a friend and trusted partner on their journey toward a beautiful, healthy smile.
"She has such wonderful balance; I couldn't believe a woman that nurturing had such an incredible, delightfully quick wit and fabulous sense of humor," said Sheila Edwards, an appreciative patient. "When you leave the office you feel as though you've just spent time with an old friend."
When a patient comes to Smile Designs by Golpa for help, they sometimes feel wary, defensive, or uncertain. Rachel immediately takes them under her wing, learning all she can about their particular personality and situation and educating them fully on all the options available to them.
By the time treatment is underway, patients fully understand what is being done and why, and are secure in the knowledge they've made an excellent choice. Many find that approach stunningly different from any they've experienced as a patient in the past.
"She's an insightful, wonderful individual who makes you feel confident and comfortable about the whole thing," patient Anthony Dincecco says. "She's right there beside you, holding your hand during the process."
As Dr. Golpa's former dental assistant for years, Rachel is highly trained in dental issues and treatments. As treatment director, she is equally concerned that her patients always feel respected.
"There is no judgment here," she says. "That is a human being sitting there asking for our help with a problem or with something that they don't like about themselves. I need to find out what they need, what they do and don't like, and how I can make that affordable for them. I need to come up with something that matches their idea of perfection and help them reach that. I educate them the whole way about what's going on with them and how they would be changing it."
Although Dr. Golpa is always happy to discuss a patient's treatment plan at any length desired, the work Rachel does smoothes the way for him to quickly diagnose and treat and for the patient to feel completely supported at all times. To Rachel, nothing is more important than building and honoring the trust that is being given.
"I really want people to understand that Dr. Golpa truly is the best doctor I've ever worked for," she said. "There is nothing but perfection done here, nothing done without reasoning behind it. I think he is a fantastic doctor and I wouldn't work for him if he wasn't."
Rachel loves her job at Smile Designs by Golpa, saying it offers her a unique and uplifting perspective.
"My job is gratifying," she says. "I see the difference we make in people's lives. To be there for each step of the process and see the transformation from beginning to end makes each day something I look forward to. It's rewarding to see how each person blooms with self-confidence and the ability to have the smile they always dreamed of. It gives me comfort and joy that each and every person believes in and trusts us to capture what they consider perfect in their eyes."
